COPPELL, TX, March 28, 2009 - The Cedar Park Timberwolves walked onto a frigid, windswept field Saturday afternoon and wished they were back in the warm hotel rooms they had just left.   The cold weather was a foreboding of the chilly reception they received at the hands of the Coppell Cowboys in a non-district matchup.  Coppell jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter which extended to 7-1 by halftime.  It was 11-1 after Q3 before coming to a merciful end at 15-2.  Stephen Smith had both Cedar Park goals, assisted each time by Nick Spier.

Cedar Park hit the post or crossbar four times in the game and had bright spots in the number of ground balls they were able to recover.  A swarming Coppell defense made it difficult to get plays started and complete clears.   The Coppell booster club rolled out the welcome mat after the game however and treated all players and fans to a barbecue lunch at a local restaurant.  “The Coppell team played a very good game,” said Cedar Park Coach Chris Knight after the contest ended. “I thought we had some good moments, but we saw some things we need to work on as well.  Overall it was a good trip up to Dallas between today’s game and last nights.  We’ll watch the film and see what we can do to improve.”

The loss moved the T-wolves to 4-4 for the year but still tied for first place with a 3-0 district record.  Cedar Park’s next Varsity game is next Friday, April 3 when they host Anderson High School, 8:00pm at CPHS.
