AUSTIN, TX, February 25, 2009 - The Cedar Park Timberwolf Lacrosse team traveled to St. Stephens Wednesday night and came away with wins for both the Varsity and JV squads.
The Spartans struck first with a score midway through the first quarter. However, Cedar Park clawed back and held a 6-2 lead at halftime. After scoring once right after the halftime break, Cedar Park hung on to win 8-3. Ryan Fairclough led the scoring with three goals, followed by Stephen Smith with two. Sophomore defenseman Holden Ilseng led the defense with a goal on a long run into Spartan territory. Jason Teal and Tanner Brown added a goal apiece to close out the scoring. Cedar Park out-shot the Spartans 43-26 on the way to the win.
“Alex Lee got the game ball for hustling,” said Cedar Park Coach Chris Knight. “We had a lot of sick players out on the team and a few missing with the flu. I thought we did well playing through that.” Cedar Park varsity (3-1, 2-0) has won three in a row after dropping their season opener to Bowie.
CP JV 10, St. Stephens JV 3 - Grant Zulkowski led the JV T-wolves with three goals vs. St Stephens. Michael Woeste had two goals and an assist, and Nolan Klein, Trevor Venable, Nick Vinella, Richard Jacobs and Matt Meeks each had a goal to close out the scoring. Defensively, Sean Barnett had an amazing 26 saves for an astounding 83.9% save percentage. Sean Stewart led the D-poles with four ground balls, followed by Alex Lee with three and Michael Yope with two.
The Timberwolves next face Highland Park’s DII team in an inter-district game on Saturday, February 28 at 2:00PM. The game will be played at Cedar Park High School.
