AUSTIN, TX - Cedar Park’s Timberwolves lax team has had some ups and downs this year, but finished the regular season on an up note, winning their last regular season game vs. Westlake 8-5.  Cedar Park finished the regular season with a 7-8 overall record and a 5-4 district record.   The teams have both qualified for the post-season.

The game started slowly with Cedar Park taking a 1-0 lead in the first quarter on an unassisted goal by Ryan Fairclough.  Westlake came alive in Q2 and tied the game at 3-3 by halftime.  Cedar Park jumped ahead again in Q3 and led 5-3 heading into the final frame.  The T-wolves seemed to be heading for a comfortable win until Westlake scored twice within two minute to get within one of CP at 6-5 with only minutes to play.   Cedar Park jumped back with one more goal and Ryan Fairclough added a final goal in the waning seconds to make the final score 8-5.

Ryan Fairclough led the offense with four goals, Stephen Smith had two, Gerad Stratton had a goal and an assist and Chris Asher had a goal in the win. “I thought our defense played well this game considering we had over nine minutes in penalties for the game and only gave up one extra-man goal,” said Cedar Park coach Chris Knight after the game.  “Colton Yarborough played an excellent game in goal and was awarded the game ball for his efforts.”  Colton made thirteen saves for an outstanding 72.2% save percentage.  Rylan Gilley led the defense in ground balls with eight, followed by Holden Ilseng with six and Joel Millikan and Colton Yarborough with one each.  Ryan Fairclough had six ground balls playing midfield.

With Austin High’s win over Westwood last night, the T-wolves finished the season in a three-way tie for fourth place in the District.  Using a goal-differential tiebreaker rule, the final standings came out as follows:

1. McNeil, 2. Austin, 3. Bowie, 4. Westwood, 5. Cedar Park and 6. Westlake.

McNeil and Austin High have qualified for a first-round bye in the playoffs.  Bowie will play Westlake and Cedar Park gets a chance to avenge their loss to Westwood.  The first-round games will be played this weekend at Westlake’s Chaparral Stadium during the Lone Star Alliance college club championships.  The game schedule is not yet finalized but the game schedule will be announced on Friday, April 24.  See this link for more information on the LSA championships:   http://www.lonestaralliance.org/
