CEDAR PARK, TX - The Cedar Park Timberwolves came out strong on Senior Night, matching goals with Westwood to start the game. By halftime, the score had slipped some and the T-wolves trailed Westwood 7-5. Westwood owned the third quarter they took advantage of some Cedar Park penalties and stretched the score in the early fourth quarter up to 13-6. Down seven goals and nearly written off, the T-wolves could have wilted, but came out after a timeout to score four straight goals, putting a scare into the Warriors as they narrowed the score to 13-10. But the hole they dug was too deep to climb out of and Westwood scored a final goal with seconds left to end the game at 14-10.
“We had a good run at the end and played good in the first half, but our third quarter letdown put us too far behind,” said Cedar Park Coach Chris Knight after the game. “I was impressed by the team’s composure coming back when they could have folded up the tent, but you can’t spot a good team like Westwood seven goals and expect to win on most nights.” Westwood is the only Central District team that Cedar Park has yet to beat in their history after beating Austin High earlier this year. If they don’t meet again in the playoffs, the T-wolves will have to wait another year for a chance to end that winning streak.
Crosse-currents: Cedar Park (6-7) is now 4-3 in District play and faces a tough two games to end the season. They travel to Bowie for a game at House Park on Friday - JV faces off at 6:00 and Varsity at 8:00PM, then end the season next Tuesday at Westlake - a team they beat in overtime last year. They will need to win at least one of the last two games to clinch a playoff spot.
